Child Death Investigations for the Multidisciplinary Team (1 or 2-Day Course)
Course Description
Child death investigations are among the most complex and emotionally challenging cases faced by a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). This immersive course—led by experienced prosecutors, law enforcement, coroners’ investigators, and forensic specialists—emphasizes a collaborative, evidence-based approach to investigating and prosecuting child fatalities. Through case-based discussions and experiential exercises, participants will practice key skills such as scene preservation, reenactments, and evidence collection.
Topics include early investigative coordination, the role of forensic interviews and CACs for sibling/witness interviews, medical and legal indicators of abuse, search warrant and subpoena use, medical record review, and the use of digital and entomological evidence. The training underscores the critical role of coroner/medical examiner-inclusive MDTs in building strong, trauma-informed cases.
